Setting up a New Competition or Draw

To get started, visit the Competition Engine dashboard and select “Launch New Draw Campaign”.

On the next screen, give your competition (campaign) a name.

  1. Then, add a new keyword by typing it into the “Keyword” field and clicking the “Add >>” button. Remove a keyword by selecting it and then clicking the “<<Remove” button. If you’ve created a CSV file, you can upload all of your keywords at once. To do this, click the “Choose File” button next to “Bulk Keyword Upload” and select the CSV file.
  2. The “Apply Weighting” feature allows you to assign a certain number of extra entries through the use of codes. You can learn more about weighting here
  3. Choose the dates during which you’d like the competition to be valid.
  4. In the “Correct response” box, enter the message that will be sent to those who have successfully entered (when the keyword from a “Keywords” list is texted accurately).
Note: If your competition uses unique entry codes to enter the draw you can apply parameters to response messages. This will return the code the participant texted in as part of the reply message. The param to use in the response is: __DRAWCODE__. E.g. Thanks, we got your entry on code: __DRAWCODE__ .
  5. Then, select the “Allow Duplicate Mobile Numbers” box if you’d like to allow multiple entries from the same mobile number. Keep this box unticked if you’d only like to receive one entry per mobile number. If this is the case, type in your response message for a mobile number that enters more than once.
  6. If you’d like to allow multiple entries from the same code, select “Allow Duplicate Codes”. Keep this box unticked if you’d only like to receive one entry per code (if you have unique entry codes). If this is the case, type in your response message for a code that is used twice.
  7. If you’d like users to be able to enter from the web, select “Allow Web Entry”. Learn more about this feature here.
  8. Finally, select how you’d like winners to be drawn from the “Select Draw Type” dropdown menu.
    The following options are available:
    1. Standard (Choose Random): The system randomly chooses a winner from all of the correct entries received.
    2. Pick every nth entry as a winner: The system assigns a winner every time your specified number of entries have been reached. To set this up, choose a number threshold and enter a response that will be sent each time a person reaches that entry number. Finally, specify the maximum number of prizes in the box below.
    3. Response Tiers: You can set up three ‘Tiers’ of entries here.  additional ‘Response’ text boxes each with their own 'Tier' box. Enter each response and enter a number into the Tier box. This tells the system to send the first response to the number of entrants entered in the corresponding 'Tier' box. When that value has been reached, the second message is sent to the handsets that follow; and so on.
    4. Daily Draw (Auto draws): Selecting this option tells the system to automatically select a daily winner. Here you can select how many times the automatic daily draw will take place. There’s also an option to 're-draw' in the event that no entries were received the previous day.
The draw timeframe runs from midnight to midnight of the previous day - e.g. 2018-03-05 00:00:00 to 2018-03-06 00:00:00 (unless the redraw box is ticked)
Note: Selecting this option will also enable the ability to extract a winners CSV further down the page.
  9. Then, click the “Create” button to save your competition. You’ll then see your competition dashboard, where you can make future changes, clone your competition and pick a winner.

Reporting

There are several reports available that can help you when running a competition and they can ve found under the Reporting tab:

Mobile Report: Mobile Report can be used to see transaction history between a particular mobile and Competition Engine. This can be used to investigate queries from entrants where they believe their entry may not have been processed correctly e.g. where an entrant has put a space in the Code and so it is returning an invalid response. You can find more information on Mobile Report here.

Mobile Analytics: This can show aggregated volume by gateway / shortcode / carrier to help reconcile entry volumes. You can find more information on Mobile Analytics here.
