Welcome to your guide for Voting and Polling. With this solution, you can run SMS polls and voting applications. Not to mention the results are updated in real time so you can immediately track and report on results.

Creating Your Voting Application

Okay, so let’s get started. In order to get your audience voting on things you’ll first need to create a voting application.


Setting The Parameters For Your Application


Click on the “Create new voting application” button.

 


a. Start by giving your vote/poll a name. Think of something easy to remember, for easy access later.

b. Then, in the “Valid From” field, select the date/time that votes will be accepted from. In the “Valid To” field, select the end date and time for votes being accepted.

c. Next, fill in the remaining sections and click “Create”. The “Unrecognised Keyword” field is for the message that you’d like to be sent to a vote that didn’t match one of your predefined voting options. The “Pre-Live” and “Post-Live” fields are for responses that will be sent to votes received outside of the valid timeframe.


Choosing Your Voting Options (Keywords)

You’ll now add the options that users can vote for. These are conveniently named ‘Keywords’.

 

  1. Start by giving the Vote a name in the field “Title”.
  2. Next type in the keyword that the user will use for their vote. Please make sure there are no spaces in the keyword. This is very important. The vote will not be received if there is a space.
  3. Finally, in the “Text Response” field type in the message you want to respond to a correctly entered keyword. If you want to create more keywords, click the “Create more” button to repeat the process with different keywords or just click create to save your work.


Adding Additional Settings

 

You’ll then be whisked away to an overview of your voting application. This is where you can adjust specific settings to your application. For more information on what you might want to adjust on this screen, please visit the following guides below:

Adding a Vote Option

Okay, so you’ve added your first voting option. Now you want to add more. You’ve come to the right place.


  1. Scroll down to find “Vote Options”.

 


2. Select “Add Option” and follow the steps below.

 



  1. Start by giving the Vote a name in the field “Title”.
  2. Next type in the keyword that the user will use for their vote. Please make sure there are no spaces in the keyword.
  3. Finally, in the “Text Response” field type in the message you want to respond to a correctly entered keyword. If you want to create more keywords, click the “Create more” button to repeat the process with different keywords or just click create to save your work.


Uploading Vote Options from a CSV File

Save time, upload from CSV.


  1. PREPARING YOUR CSV
    To get started, you’ll need a formatted CSV file. You’ll need to create a file with the following column order:
    1. Voting Title
    2. Vote Option (Keyword)
    3. Response

Please remove the header row in your CSV and then save it in a handy location.


  1. UPLOADING YOUR CSV
    1. Visit your application overview page and scroll down to find “Upload Options From CSV” section.
    2. Select the “Choose File” button and select your CSV file. Then click “Upload” to finish.

Limiting Votes

You may like to limit the number of votes made for this application.  To do this, visit your application overview page and under the “Limit Votes”, choose from the following options:

  1. “Unlimited”: Allow an unlimited number of votes to be accepted from any mobile.
  2. “One per Vote Option”: Allow only one vote from a particular mobile number.
  3. “Max”: Customise the number of votes allowed from a given mobile number by selecting the Max option and then using the drop down menu.


After selecting your option be sure to click the “Update” button to save your changes.

Selecting a Random Vote

You may like to select a random vote within your voting application.

  1. To do this, visit your application overview page and scroll down to find “Vote Options”.

 


2. To choose a random vote from the entire application, click the “Select Random Number” button next to “Add Option” at the bottom of the “Vote Options” table. If you’d like to select a random vote within a specific voting option, click the “Select Random Number” next to the corresponding option. You’ll then see the random number associated with that vote.


Cloning a Voting Application

You can save a lot of time by cloning a previous Voting Application. 


  1. To do this, visit your application overview page by clicking on a previous application in the Voting & Polling dashboard.
  2. Change the parameters to suit your new application (give the application a name, change the start and end date, and then click the “Clone” button.

Downloading Reports on Your Voting Application

Here you can download a group of votes as a CSV file. There are three options for your reports:

  1. Excessive Votes - SMS messages grouped by ‘Option’ and by ‘Mobile Number’
  2. Valid Votes - Summary of Votes grouped by ‘Option’
  3. Invalid Votes - SMS messages grouped by message content, not matching any of the Keywords/Options


  1. To download a report, visit your application overview page by clicking on a previous application in the Voting & Polling dashboard.
  2. Scroll to find the Reporting tab and click the “Download entries as CSV” beside the report option you’d like to download.

Viewing Upcoming Voting Applications (Upcoming Polls)


To view upcoming Voting applications, visit the Voting & Polling dashboard and click on the “Future” tab.

  Making Changes to Upcoming Voting Applications (Upcoming Polls)

You can modify any Voting Applications that have been scheduled to start in the future.


  1. To do this, visit the Voting & Polling dashboard.
  2. Then click on the “Future” tab and select the name of the application that you’d like to modify.
  3. Make any changes and click the “Update” button.

Viewing a List of Previous Voting Applications (Poll History)

  1. Click on the “Historical” tab.
  2. If you want to view the details of a particular application or download a report, click on its name to view the application overview.
